As summer (and barbecue season) is too quickly coming to an end, I’ve been in the mood for barbecue food. That, and my husband keeps reminding me that I don’t have a burger made with hamburger meat on my blog. He loves my veggie burger, and my turkey burger is delicious too, but he said I needed to represent the traditional burger lovers out there and feature a tasty, messy, good old fashioned hamburger.

So, I met him half way.

These Barbecue Bacon Cheeseburger Sliders are made with hamburger meat but I kinda got creative and added bacon to the hamburger meat (if you haven’t tried it, it’s so tasty!) I also added grilled onions and mushrooms, barbecue sauce (it’s just so good on cheeseburger) and well the little pretzel buns.

I often see the little pretzel buns in the store and I’m always tempted to buy them, but for one reason or another I change my mind. But I finally decided it was time I made a cheeseburger on a pretzel bun!

And guys, what can I say? Why did I wait so long? Pretzel buns are so good! 🙂

I mean, I am a sucker for a hot pretzel. You know, a hot, buttery pretzel you get at the mall. Such a treat every time.

So, of course a hamburger sandwiched between a pretzel would be delicious too.

All in all, despite the creativeness I took to the traditional hamburger – my husband was pleased. Even with the mushrooms, which he’s not a huge fan of.

I first had mushrooms on a burger when I had my first Five Guys burger. I was surprised at how well they complemented the burger. Give it a try, even if mushrooms aren’t you’re thing, you may be surprised.

I hope you enjoy these Barbecue Bacon Cheeseburger Sliders, I think they’re delicious but you can always switch things up to your liking.

I really enjoy the slider sized hamburger. They’re so much easier to handle. And the kids love having little burgers for dinner. It makes dinner time more fun. And I’m sure all the parents out there can agree that anything that makes dinner time more fun is a win! 🙂

Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, add all the hamburger patty ingredients. Mix, but don’t overwork. Over mixing the meat makes a tough hamburger.
  2. Separate into 8 sections, roll each one into a ball and flatten into a patty. Set aside.
  3. Preheat a medium skillet to medium-low heat, add oil, then add onions. After about 3 minutes, add mushrooms. Cook onions and mushrooms until the onions are nice a golden brown and the mushrooms are cooked through, about 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Heat an indoor grill, skillet pan or barbecue grill to medium-high. Add hamburger patties. Turn to medium. Cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes. Flip. When almost completely browned, add cheese. Cook until cheese is mostly melted, and to your desired doneness.
  5. Assemble burger.
  6. I like to either toast the buns on the grill or warm them in the oven or microwave.
  7. Put mayo on the bottom bun and top it with lettuce, tomato, the hamburger, onions and mushrooms, and spread barbecue sauce on the top bun.
  8. Serve immediately. Enjoy!

My little chef wanted to take part in the burger making too. I love it when children get interested in cooking and baking. 🙂

So glad you like it! When I was taking photos my son sat the plastic hamburger on the table and said, “I made you lunch Mama.” I just couldn’t resist taking a picture. It warms my heart when my kids like to be involved in what I do.
